This past weekend

Got home from my hike yesterday and vegged out. Never got to the computer to post about my hike and now the phone is upstairs. I'll do so tomorrow. It was about 7 miles and great weather, though extremely muddy of a hike. Took a lot out of me.

Been eating well this past week. Weigh in tomorrow for the weight loss competition at work.

Oh, and CrossFit begins one week from today. I'm looking forward to it, and know it will be a lot of work.

Prepping for Crossfit Induction

Ended up not traveling after all, so kind of forgot to say something about that. I've been debating what to do to 'prepare' for CrossFit induction. It will be rough. Part of me wanted to start doing some hard core kettlebell workouts on a daily basis. The probably I usually run into, though, is that I try a new exercise regiment at the exact same time that I try a different eating routine. This usually dooms me to failure because of too much change. I get really sore and really hungry from the exercise.

Therefore, with CrossFit coming up, I've been sticking with eating better and walking/hiking. We've been mostly keeping with a 5-9 mile hike on the weekend, and now that there is sunlight past 4pm (days getting longer), this will continue.

We'll see what the weight is this weekend. While I don't think I've lost 4 pounds this week (per my latest goal), I'm hoping for a solid 2-3 minimum to continue each week.

By the way, the date has been set for the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge ... September 1st. The real training begins now. The weekend hikes will start getting longer with the daylight, and in a number of months will be working up to a 26 mile hike (same length as three peaks, but without the three peaks). I'll obviously have to be able to do a 26 mile hike in 12 hours prior to even attempting the three peaks. Lots of work to do. Looking forward to CrossFit.

The Two Week Test

We've started a 'biggest loser' challenge in our office. The weigh ins for that won't reflect what my wifi scale does, because at work I wear wintery clothing. At home when I weigh in, I, well .... don't. But I will say that I lost 6 pounds in two weeks as part of the competition (biweekly weigh ins). Now to the real challenge. I'm coming the U.S. for business for two weeks beginning this Sunday. This will be a challenge for a number of reasons. Primarily, it's hard because I'll be seeing friends and grabbing quick meals out of convenience. At least that's how it usually goes. The ongoing joke in the office is that anyone who goes back to the States for business comes back a few pounds heavier. My goal, however, is to lose 8 pounds in those two weeks. It's ambitious for sure, but I can't put it off for the sake of going to the U.S. The hotel I'll be at has a kitchen (Residence Inn), and there are places to exercise. I'll plan to blog, but won't be as verbose since I'll only have an iPad (with no keyboard). Wish me luck. -mwb

January 14, 2012

Short post, just checking in. More on what I ate tomorrow. Long journey south today, flat tire on way back, hundreds of miles on spare donut at 50mph max speed. Very tired. Just wanted to check in.

January 13, 2012

Food:
Breakfast: 2 Apples and some coffee.
Lunch: Bourbon meatballs, tower of haggis/black pudding (how do you feel about that one?)
Dinner: Gyros salad, entirely homemade by Sammy. Lean meat. Organic tzatziki. Nice!

Exercise: Nope

Thoughts: We're driving down to an RAF base tomorrow, so no real chance of exercise. I am, however, looking forward to the 7 mile hike on Monday (no work that day). Stair walking tomorrow would be a good idea I think.
